Selective Mutation or Survival of My Roses

All summer the deer have feasted on my roses...just as the bud begins to open-

 CHOMP!

But this guy...
is smarter than the average rose bush. He has had enough!

Last month when we finally had a little taste of summer, he sent a shoot up high....not just a little high, but Jack-in-the-Beanstalk high!

and now that the deer cannot reach the four buds above the roof line.... they have trimmed my strawberry plant to nubs!

A door closes and A window opens??? for the deer anyway.
Funny about the high in the sky rose bush!

Cute roses!

My strawberry plants have been eaten by our Lab puppy. But that's better than when Cisco was a pup....he ate more than half of the Meyer lemon tree, thorns and all. It's taken almost 5 years for it to come back!
