Off to college again....

This morning BIG Foot took off for his Grandmother's house....2/3 of the way to his college town.

Thank goodness he did not have to travel 800+ miles alone...he had his Rasta monkey that he won at the county fair.

After good-byes I walked 5 miles with my former coworker and then rode to school with the Captain. It takes 2x as long to ride and there is more up than just the BIG hill to my old school. I also rode a little slower because I had 2- 64 quart Rubber Maid tubs on the back of my bike.

I was excited to find I now have enough tables to sit the kids at!! AND the ballast is fixed so the lights don't flicker...and the wonderful janitor found a cart for the T.V. he salvaged for me. AND I have brand new chairs!! I have never had brand new classroom furniture or a new white board (that I ordered today!) You know you're a teacher when silly things excite you!!

It took all day to paper these walls and put up border...but I did manage to set up the "stuff" you see here into a configuration that I am very happy with.

The Captain was too tired to swim today so I stayed longer to finish a few things- then I rode to the BIG DOWNHILL......
but first I took a picture of the view leaving my school...

The fog is pouring in from the coast and over to the reservoir.

Then to the hill....where you can see the Oakland Bay Bridge and the San Mateo Bridge....and if the trees were cut down some you could see the Golden Gate. The fog is engulfing The City too....but it is the 2nd real day of summer here at my house!

What would you do with $500?

...not what I have to do with it, I'm sure...

See....two weeks back, BIG Foot was making a U-turn at a stop light with an arrow. When the light turned green, he turned- but someone else chose the exact same time to make a right turn- on a red light....and hit him...or they both hit....or whatever...but the bottom line is his truck is damaged and it needs to be fixed.

He called home from the scene, because he is 1,357 miles from home, we couldn't just drive over and check it out. But when the Captain heard the woman who hit him say that his insurance would fix her car, the Captain told BIG Foot to call the police to write accident report.

Later, I asked BIG Foot how old the woman was...he said, "Like 90."

Right...I was thinking she must be my age...kids always think people are much older than they are...BUT he was pretty darn close...she was 87...AND SHE WAS NOT WRONG FOR HEAVEN'S SAKES HE TURNED INTO HER LANE!!!! THAT'S HER STORY ANDSHE'SSTICKINGTOIT!!!!!! AND HER DAUGHTER IS AN ATTORNEY AND blahblahblah WHY DID HE TURN INTO HER LANE!!

Regardless that she had a red light and regardless that this intersection allows a U-turn, and regardless that it is next to impossible to make a U-turn in a truck and stay in the closest lane to the divider...ITISNOTHERFAULT!!!

SO the policeman came took one look and after listening to her, he wrote her a ticket.

Now BIG Foot has taken his truck in for the estimate and it is set for repairs....

BUT

the woman has not talked to her insurance company. They cannot act until she does so. So our insurance company does not even know if she is insured...and in the meantime, we need to pay the $500 deductible...and then WAIT....until this woman speaks to them. According to our insurance company, she has 40 days to do so...and by that time BIG Foot will be home for summer...and if she decides to fight it all, he will have to go ALLTHEWAYBACK to CO to appear.

Sometimes you just have to admit you made a mistake...and suck it up....we all have had to at one time or another...if she would have just admitted the mistake, she could have paid the $859 to fix the truck, not gone through insurance....AND SHE WOULDN'T HAVE HAD A TICKET! A lesson to be learned before you're 90 I guess!

...so there goes $500...
